ZAMBONIZAMBONI is a Hudson Valley-based dance and music compositional performance improvisation group. That is to say, we improvise with the intention of making something that is compositional even as it decays and unravels. We research improvisation weekly and perform here and there. We make legible, or try to make legible, work that is totally improvised--that is, work that has no pre-organized structure but leans hard into the habits, histories, proclivities, curiosities and flotsam and jetsam of each performer's training and human history. The process produces images, touch, scenes, snatches of song and sound worlds. We ask a lot of questions about what is IN and what is OUT of the performing sphere (obsessions with META), unleashing trained dancing and music making that takes itself seriously and spoofs itself constantly, engaging the world of politics, intimate realms, and human relationships full of disjuncture and interruption.
